Welcome to London

London was founded in 1826 and was incorporated from a town to city status in 1855. We will celebrate 175 years in 2001 with a population of over 330,000. London is referred to as the forest city because of its abundance of trees and parks, it is situated between Toronto and Windsor in Southwestern Ontario. The Thames river runs through the centre of the city close to the downtown core and offers an impressive view from the Art Gallery. London has the best of both worlds, it is small enough for people to be travel across in a short time and yet big enough in that it offers many of the attractions found in larger centers.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of London comprises the following deaneries: London, Windsor, Sarnia, Kent, Ingersoll, Huron-Perth and Essex. The Cathedral Basilica for the Diocese of London is St. Peters which was established in 1843. There are also Ukranian rite churches, Maronite rite churches as well as Missions and Military Ordinarite in the Diocese of London. The official diocesan website is rcec.london.on.ca

Bishop of London  His Excellency, Most Reverend John Michael Sherlock, D.D., LL.D., was ordained to the priesthood June 3, 1950; named Bishop of the See of London July 8, 1978 and installed August 21, 1978.
